Family History: Who Are We?

The story of the Cuttilan family of London, England begins around 300 to 400 years ago in Central Java, Indonesia.

Raden Kirti and his brother Raden Purnama of the Bugis clan were exiled from the country and settled in Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Raden Kirti married Ms. Cushman /koshman who was the daughter of the Vice-Roy of Gowa, Indonesia. They had a son Kirtilan. Kirthilan had two sons namely; Raden Awal Cuttilan and Raden Tuan Raheem Cuttilan.

Awwal Cuttilan son of Kirtilan married Rameena Hassen and had two sons Kabeer Cuttilan and  Jainudeen Awwal Cuttilan and 3 daughters who later became Mrs Hashim, Mrs Dharmanie Amoo and Mrs Preena.

Jainudeen Awwal Cuttilan, proprietor of Cuttilan & Co. and owner of the Lord Nelson Hotel, Colombo, Sri Lanka,and Kings Hotel Kandy, Sri Lanka  married Miss Nehay Kitchil (Hajima) Amath, daughter of Chappon Amath,  a landed proprietor. They were blessed with 4 daughters and 5 sons – Ratu Davey, Raden Sankilan, Ratu Javie, Ratu Iynie Marliya, Ratu Dane Kirti, Mohd. Ibrahim Jainudeen, Tuan Esmail Jainudeen, Tuan Sankilan Jainudeen, Tuan Yacoob Jainudeen, Mohd. Usoof Jainudeen.

I, Mohamed Usoof Jainudeen Cuttilan, retired Directorate Accountant is married to  Nghai Nooranie Juwitha Miskin daughter of  the late  Tuan Mohamed Johore ‘Joe’ Miskin, (Accountant in Charge Treasury and Finance, The Shell Company Ceylon and Chief Accountant, The Ceylon Turf Club) and Nghai Rathna Abbas. We have two sons  Jainudeen Azlan Cuttilan and  Imran Johore Cuttilan. Our son  Jainudeen Azlan Cuttilan is married to an English girl Delwynne Ranner and our second son Imran Johore is married to a Cypriot/English girl Shayna Suleyman.

At the time of our son Jainudeen Azlan’s wedding we decided to revive our royal titles so now I and my sons have added ‘Raden’  and my wife  her ‘Tunku’ title.

We have made  UK our home but make frequent visits to Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Indonesia to keep our connections in these countries.
